The Motherland of the World (Egypt)

Anthony P Postiglione Jr

Egypt is a country that connects north-east Africa and the Middle East, and its history goes back to the time of the pharaohs. The fertile Nile Valley is home to millennia-old ruins such as the giant pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, as well as Luxor’s Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings tombs. The capital, Cairo, is home to Ottoman landmarks such as the Muhammad Ali Mosque and the Egyptian Museum, a treasure trove of antiquities.

The ancient Egyptian civilization, known for its pyramids, pharaohs, mummies and tombs, flourished for thousands of years. Egypt contributed to modern society through its many cultural developments, especially in language and mathematics.
