Anthony-P-Postiglione-Jr

Anthony Postiglione Jr says Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, is known for its beaches, lagoons and coral reefs. The mountainous hinterland includes Black River Gorges National Park, with rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails, and wildlife like flying foxes.

Port Louis has sites like the Champs de Mars Racecourse, the Eureka Plantation House, and the 18th-century Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden.

Famous for its dodo (an extinct bird the size of a swan), its multicultural population and expensive resorts (up to $600 a night or more), Mauritius offers the richest Mauritian rum, sweet jam, mud of seven colors, underwater waterfalls and giant water lilies. In the Botanical Garden of Pamplemousses, crows, Sega music and an excellent golf course.
